Behind the scenes of the TV drama shoot ~

In the blink of an eye 2022The second half of the year has arrived. We remain busy in the second half of the year. Juggling more than three things at the same time.show, The teachers and students all have packed schedules!

A local production company has invited us to collaborate on a project where students will be responsible for the makeup and hair team for all actors in a local television drama. After a brief pause due to the pandemic, it's time for the students to go all out.

TV drama makeup and hair styling experiences are different from general practice. This is because TV dramas require a longer duration and have rich plot developments. Therefore, it is more than previous individual [styles].showIt's also more challenging. From character styling and costume fittings based on their respective scenes, to thoroughly reading scripts to understand the direction, to communicating with the crew about personnel allocation, all these provide students with valuable workplace experience and on-the-spot response skills.

The students primarily involved in the TV drama's makeup and hair department attended the main actors' costume fitting day. The purpose of the actors' costume fitting day is to ensure what the actor's look will be for every scene (e.g., at home, at work, casual, dating, etc.); each scene will have a different look. To ensure that the styling is consistent during filming and editing, each look will be photographed for the students who will be following up to record.

The students read through the script for the first time, understanding every detail recorded in it, how each scene connects, and how to look for continuity. Since filming began, they've been shooting day and night, traveling to various locations in and around Kuantan. In the past month, the students' communication skills and confidence have improved tremendously!

Under the guidance of their seniors, the new students are gradually able to grasp the workings of the film crew and can handle inquiries from actors, directors, or staff. Details they had not previously noticed, such as the positioning when applying hairspray to an actor, which could accidentally spray onto the cinematographer's screen, were all learned during this film shoot.😊

Besides communicating with the film crew, the entire makeup and hairstyling team's communication skills are also crucial. Not only does the team leader need to monitor the shooting schedule daily, but the accompanying students must also be familiar with it and keep their own records. This shoot also had split shifts, morning and afternoon. Students on the morning shift and those coming in the afternoon to take over needed to communicate thoroughly about any impromptu additions or changes to the shooting during the day, and any specific things to pay attention to regarding the actors' condition. Once everything was clearly handed over, the afternoon students would take over and complete the day's shoot. All communication and details must be crystal clear.

Although there were minor and major issues during the early filming stages (communication problems with the crew, continuity not recorded, continuity errors, improper handling of details, and lack of chemistry between classmates), these all gradually improved later on. Every team needs a period of adjustment, and you have now moved past that adjustment period, officially entering a phase of seamless cooperation as partners!

Watching the students become more mature and competent, when the TV series finishes filming and airs, all the exhaustion, hard work, and grievances will be worth it!😄

Only one week left until filming wraps up, keep it up, kids! Looking forward to the day the drama airs!🥰
