What are the models for stage plays during the pandemic?
The University of Malaya Lantern Festival stage plays over the years have all featured large stages, full lighting, sound systems, costumes, venues, etc. But with the erosion of the pandemic, can there no longer be stage plays?
Fortunately, the existence of the internet has given stage plays a new look and new models.
This is the students' first experience with an online stage play, and it's completely different from before. In this online stage play, there's no longer the usual distance; with close-up filming, students need to adjust their makeup according to the needs of the scene.
The same actors on set shoot 2-3 looks per day. The content is fantasy adventure, blending ancient and modern elements. The students are once again challenged with switching between ancient and modern looks. They have to remove one makeup and costume, then apply another, all within a specific timeframe for the actor's makeup and hair change. Due to the tight schedule, the students get nervous, afraid they'll be too slow with makeup application and hairstyling, which could delay the entire shooting progress.
There are instructors, photographers, and directors on set. When all departments are waiting for you to finish your casual shots, the pressure at that moment is actually immense.
But pressure makes people grow. Without pressure, how would you manage to push yourself to your limits and do your best?
Excellent stylists hone their skills through countless moments of pressure, becoming quick, decisive, and accurate.
The students all say that every time they do a show, they feel like they've grown up a little more 😊
It's very gratifying to see students successfully absorb the new knowledge learned from each show. This knowledge will stay with you.
