When people talk about cool, warm, or neutral skin tones, do you not understand? Every skin tone has a different base color, which is what we call the undertone. And this base color is what determines whether your skin tone is cool or warm.
Generally, most people think that fair skin is cool-toned and yellow-toned skin is warm-toned by just looking at it. Do you think so too?
NO! Not all fair-skinned people are cool-toned, and not all yellow-skinned people are warm-toned. Still struggling to figure out if you have cool or warm undertones? Keep reading, and I'll teach you how to quickly and easily distinguish your base tone, and avoid awkward situations (mismatching cool and warm colored accessories can really ruin your look~).
1 Observe your pupils.
Not everyone's irises are black. Some are dark brown, some have a gray tone, some are light brown, and some are jet black. Black or grayish irises usually belong to cool undertones; conversely, irises with a brown base belong to warm undertones. This is because warm undertones have a yellowish-brown base, like tea or dark tea; while blue, gray, and black represent cool tones.
Caution
This refers to your original eye color, not the color of your pupils after wearing color contacts.
2 Observe your natural color
Similar to the irises, natural hair color is one of the ways you can self-examine to determine if you have a cool or warm skin tone. People with cool undertones naturally have black or grayish hair, while those with warm undertones have black hair with brown tones. You can observe the color of your hair roots or the top of your head in sunlight or under artificial light.
Caution ⚠️ "Same" refers to your natural hair color; dyed hair is not allowed.
3 Observe the color of your own blood vessels
Veins often appear on the back of the hand or wrist. The color of these veins can help you quickly and easily determine if you have a cool or warm skin tone. People with warm undertones (Warm) will see veins that are mostly green or blue-green; people with cool undertones (Cool) will see blue, purple, or blue-purple veins. Of course, some people will have veins of both color tones, and this can be classified as neutral (Neutral). Friends who wear makeup often and have researched foundation should have seen the "neutral" foundation shade, which corresponds to a neutral skin tone that can pull off both cool and warm tones.
Please note ⚠️ When observing your blood vessels, remember to do so in a well-lit area with sunlight, and avoid using the veins on your wrist as a standard. This is because the skin layer there is quite thin, and you'll typically see vessels with two color tones. The veins on the back of your hand are more accurate. The skin there is thicker, and if you have warm-toned skin, it will make the blood vessels appear greenish.
